January 7th

Today is Will's 2nd Birthday. Marc and I can't believe that we've been parents for two years! Not because we lament the fact that Will is growing up, but because we simply can't believe how fast it has gone. We both agree that we enjoy being parents of an "older" child much more than we do a newborn.

We started our day with Will getting a kick out of the streamers hanging in his doorway - he ran around the upstairs landing, scrunching them in his hands and playing with them. I took the afternoon off and brought mini cupcakes to daycare for Will to share with his friends. After, Will and I spent some time at Wind Up Here, where he picked out a red firetruck as his complimentary birthday surprise. Once Marc was done working for the day, we headed to Red Robin for a birthday dinner. Will was so excited to get his ice cream sundae and, this year, he did not cry when the crew sang to him. (I did request that they forgo the clapping, which I think helped.) Marc and I let Will dive into the sundae as he saw fit and this was one of his first bites. Will doesn't ever get ice cream, so I'm sure he thought it was a fantastic treat. Of course, once we felt like he'd had enough, we quickly finished off the rest of the sundae so that he wouldn't overdo it on the sugar. Finally, we came home so Will could open his gifts. We went simple - a book, floor mat/puzzle, and a pattern block puzzle. (What did you expect from a math teacher?) All in all, a pretty good birthday for a little dude and his proud parents.

  1. Ah, too cute! Sounds like a perfect low key 2nd birthday! I just climbed into bed at my mom's house so I won't be putting up my page today. I did take a few photos at my book club, so that will be up tomorrow at some point.
